Job Description

As a Principal Materials and Corrosion Engineer, you will:

  • Lead the implementation of Materials, Corrosion, and Integrity (MCI) requirements throughout all project phases, ensuring alignment with project specifications and scope of work.
  • Drive MCI initiatives during tendering, design, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning while adhering to company policies and standards.
  • Address MCI-related technical queries from vendors, develop evaluation criteria, and contribute to bid assessments.
  • Establish and manage systems that ensure the integrity of process plants.
  • Oversee the materials selection process, develop corrosion management strategies, and create inspection plans for the project.
  • Champion innovative MCI-related technologies, supporting their testing, qualification, and deployment.
  • Lead in-country testing of materials and ensure quality assurance processes, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITP).
  • Apply lessons learned from similar projects to drive efficiency and value.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced staff.
  • Ensure compliance with change management processes to maintain technical integrity, safety, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with global and local teams to integrate cutting-edge tools and strategies for materials and corrosion management.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) practices, diversity, and technical excellence.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably Materials and Metallurgy) or equivalent, with at least 12 years of experience in upstream Exploration and Production (EP) projects, particularly in shallow water environments.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience directly related to materials and corrosion engineering.
  • COREN registration is preferred; eligibility for registration may be considered.
  • Proficiency in shallow water and pipeline design, fabrication, and commissioning, with a track record of delivering major offshore infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in materials and corrosion for onshore, offshore, and pipeline systems.
  • Strong global collaboration and communication skills, with a history of working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with the Nigerian Welding Society or in-country materials testing is an advantage.
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project milestones while fostering innovation and delivering value-driven solutions.
  • Knowledge of project challenges in Nigeria or regions with similar complexities is desirable.
