Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDC) is recognized as a leader in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). Following the enactment of the Energy Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) in March 2005, the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) was restructured, separating power generation, transmission, and distribution into distinct operations.
In the distribution sector, 11 companies, including Eko Disco, were established to distribute electricity to consumers. These companies initially operated under the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) until 2013, when further privatization granted investors greater or full ownership of power generation and distribution companies.
