Job Description:
The Livestock Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of a livestock facility, ensuring the highest standards of animal health, productivity, and safety. This role involves managing the care and welfare of animals, supervising the livestock team, coordinating feeding and breeding programs, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise Livestock Care:
- Oversee daily care, feeding, and maintenance of livestock, including poultry.
- Ensure proper handling, feeding, and care routines are followed to maintain animal health and welfare.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and manage a team of livestock workers, providing direction, training, and support.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance, conduct reviews, and ensure efficient workflows.
- Animal Health Management:
- Ensure regular health checks and vaccinations are performed.
- Identify signs of illness or injury and coordinate treatments with veterinarians.
- Maintain health records and report abnormalities to management.
- Feeding & Nutrition:
- Oversee feeding schedules and nutrition programs.
- Collaborate with nutritionists to ensure balanced diets and optimal growth.
- Breeding and Reproduction:
- Supervise breeding programs to ensure healthy offspring.
- Manage breeding stock selection and care for pregnant animals.
- Facility Maintenance:
- Ensure livestock facilities, including barns, pens, and fences, are well-maintained and safe.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to address equipment or infrastructure issues.
- Record Keeping & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records related to livestock health, breeding, feed, and production.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations on animal welfare and safety.
- Operational Support:
- Assist with inventory management of feed, veterinary supplies, and other resources.
- Participate in budgeting and cost control to optimize operations.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Zoology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 1–3 years of relevant experience in livestock farming, with a willingness to learn.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, livestock health, and nutrition.
- Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for livestock farming.
Working Conditions:
- This role involves outdoor work, long hours, and may require working on weekends and holidays.
- Occasional travel for training or industry events may be required.
- Willingness to relocate is essential.
Salary: N100,000 – N150,000 monthly.
