Job Summary
The Smile Outreach is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Communications Associate to collaborate with our Communications Director in organizing impactful events, producing engaging content, and advancing our mission across multiple platforms. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who is passionate about the nonprofit sector and skilled in storytelling and strategic communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Event Coordination:
    • Assist in planning and executing virtual and in-person events, ensuring smooth logistics, participant engagement, and impactful follow-ups.
    • Support webinars, workshops, and community gatherings, including hosting and facilitation.
    • Prepare communication and event briefs to ensure speaker readiness and effective participation.
  • Content Creation:
    • Write, edit, and publish high-quality content for newsletters, blogs, and social media that aligns with the organization’s mission.
    • Develop thought leadership pieces addressing key issues in the nonprofit sector, positioning The Smile Outreach as a leading voice in its focus areas.
    • Create external-facing event recaps and articles to highlight key takeaways and outcomes.
  • Strategic Communication:
    • Collaborate with the Communications Director to develop and execute strategic communication plans.
    • Ensure consistency in tone, branding, and messaging across all communication materials.
    • Support the creation, design, and dissemination of newsletters for stakeholders, donors, and partners.
    • Monitor engagement metrics and recommend improvements to increase visibility and interaction.
  • Campaign and Media Support:
    • Contribute to the implementation of campaigns aimed at increasing awareness, engagement, and support for The Smile Outreach’s initiatives.
    • Conduct research on trends in the nonprofit space to inform content and strategy.
    • Assist with media outreach and management of press materials as needed.
  • Collaboration and Brainstorming:
    • Source and curate compelling stories, updates, and visuals for newsletters and campaigns.
    • Actively participate in brainstorming sessions and strategy discussions with the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within the nonprofit or social impact sector.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating events.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, including email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), social media management, and content creation software.
  • Basic graphic design skills using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • A passion for storytelling and driving social impact.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a remote work environment.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in communication efforts.
